I'm of the opinion that that is too soon, and the dealership and Dodge are telling me--no warranty, not our problem. They ajusted the throttle pressure cable. With 3 pin neutral safety switch. After 2 days of diagnosis he replaced the control module but still could not resolve the problem even though his diagnostic computer found the components working correctly independently of each other. The truck only has 67,000 miles on it. The contact was unable to start the engine until the gear was shifted to neutral. Because that would be a improvement! Obviously, Dodge made a hunk of junk and I bought one.
Whether in drive or drive 2, 2nd gear acts like neutral now. I was in northern Maine and I lost my power steering. I find this to be ridiculous for a 2001 vehicle, and dangerous!. Also, my transmission started to go bad at 74,000 miles. I have replaced the same spindle before, but parts are not available now or before.
This was not consistent everyday, but it happened enough to concern me. With An All Plastic Transducer Inside Pan on The Passenger Side, 3 Pin Neutral Safety Switch. It seemed to take care of the problem for approx 1 week. It tries to go from second to third but just sort of goes back and forth between the two for a split second. Replace the filter and O-ring and make sure everything is seated well before re-assembling. Supposedly, on the 2003+ trucks, a redesign has eliminated the problem. Just hate to loose the console and the nice little junk trays! The current and failure mileages were 5,400. I was in top gear about 85-90 and the rpms went from 4K to nearly 5000 in a heartbeat. I had both feet on the floor not either gas or brake. Before I had the chance to have the car looked at, I had an accident. Take it to a reputable transmission shop I'm sure there are known fixs for all the problems and they can be incorporated with a rebuild or tranny upgrades. It ram loud and rough the rest of the way home and seemed to not want to run in drive - but the tachometer was normal.
